PLUMBING SYSTEM: When should it be replaced?

Hydraulic failure in a home can cause serious damage. It ruins both the plumbing system itself and unfortunately the walls and furniture.

Usually hydraulic failure is a symptom of old and outdated pipes that need to be replaced, the lack of maintenance of the plumbing system, temperature variations, or due to the original assembly being defective or made up of poor quality materials.

For these reasons, with this article, MQGroup Expats aims to inform home owners in advance when the repair or replacement of the plumbing system is necessary.

Signs of an outdated hydraulic system:

One of the clearest signs is the presence of lesions or cracks in the pipes that cause the deterioration of the system and fastidious leaks.

Furthermore, another clear indicator is when there are water stains on the floors or walls and the pipes have a rusty appearance (a dangerous factor for your health).

In addition, further signs of a faulty or clogged plumbing system are that the water from the tap comes out dirty or that the water leaves a white limestone patina that can cause obstructions and poor functionality of the hydraulic system.

It is also important to evaluate the materials used to build the plumbing system, given that some materials are of scarse quality or unsafe for your health.

When is a replacement necessary?

The plumbing system needs to be replaced when the bathroom itself has to be redone, although, it is important to keep in mind the kitchen and all other areas of the house that need access to water as well.

Another common reason for installing a completely new plumbing system is simply its age. Over time it is inevitable that the system suffers damage and deterioration.

The hydraulic system potentially has to be completely replaced even if there are no extreme pathologies. As mentioned above, due to the age of the system, a replacement may be required as the system is obsolete and outdated.

If you have a hydraulic system that is around 30 years old, the previously installed distribution systems were not as isolated as they are today. The separation used today has a dual purpose:

1) to avoid heat loss;

2) to prevent the condensation of pipes, which can lead to humidity issues in walls and screeds.

These types of plumbing systems are impractical and for this reason it is advisable to replace them entirely in order to make the system more effective in the long run and to avoid continuous problems that require repairs or interventions.

What processes are required to redo a plumbing system?

- Demolition and disposal

- The construction of the water system

- The construction of the masonry

- The installation of sanitary ware
